SAPILANG Falls

"As a nature-lover, I'm envious to this University. This University has a Rambutan Plantation, a natural forest and not to mention a Waterfall"
-pagnapagana
I'm aiming for two waterfalls that day (June 29, 2013 a Saturday).
Sapilang Falls and Guinabang Falls are both located in the town of Bacnotan, La Union.

Please practice the leave no trace outdoor ethics when going to these nature places.
Let us not vandalize, put graffiti on their rocks and stone walls.
Manage and dispose our waste products properly.

-my pagnapagna-

Arriving at downtown Bacnotan (7:46 am), I got a jeep ride going to Barangay Sapilang particularly to the school of Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University - North La Union Campus (DMMMSU NLUC). The Jeep brought me to the drop-off point leading to the waterfalls (8:05 am).

Warning Sign

A sign greeted me that says:

Babala

Mahigpit na ipinagbabawal ang pagpasok sa
"rambutan project" at pagpunta sa "Sapilang Falls"
 ng walang pahintulot.
Sino man ang lalabag dito ay mapapatawan ng
 kaukulang parusa.

(Warning

Entering the "rambutan project" and going to "Sapilang Falls" without permission is strictly prohibited.
Whoever break this will be punished accordingly.)

It is just proper to ask permission from some people of the University especially the caretakers of the Rambutan plantation.

A rambutan fruit at the plantation area

At 8:10 am i went inside the plantation area passing some trees of rambutan which are now beginning to bear fruits. Following the trail that led me to the stream below. I came across the concrete dilapidated small dam (to cross this dam, just before it there is a trail on the west side of the dam going few steps up follow this one and go down again to the stream). Few more walks and there it was the Sapilang Falls (8:25 am).

Sapilang Falls at this time of the year has only small water flowing but nevertheless, you can dip and swim at a pool of clear water at its base. I lingered some few minutes at the falls getting some videos and photographs.
I left the falls at 9:07 am and got back at the drop-off at 9:22 am and walk my way to a canteen to have some snacks (jeeps were just beside it waiting for passengers while few meters away was the terminal of tricycles).
Rode a jeep and left DMMMSU NLUC at 9:45 am and eventually arrived at downtown Bacnotan at 10:01 am.
And now I'm ready to go to Guinabang Falls.

-end of pagnapagna-

Subject : SAPILANG Falls
Location : DMMMSU NLUC
                Barangay Sapilang
                Municipality of Bacnotan
                Province of La Union

How to get there:
If you are coming from Manila, you can take a bus going to any of  these Northwestern Luzon places: Laoag City, Vigan City, Candon City and Abra. You have to get down at Bacnotan, La Union. At Bacnotan look for the jeep bound for SAPILANG (they usually stop at the bus stop some few meters away after the Cemetery to get passengers) with about 10 pesos or 12 pesos fare. Just tell the driver that you are going to Sapilang waterfalls. At Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – North La Union Campus (DMMMSU NLUC) ask permission and walk your way to the waterfalls.
