First Visit June 9, 2018 on a rainy season
Second time visit January 23, 2019 a pre-summer visit
Third time visit - see story below
-my pagnapagna-
(January 25, 2018 a Friday)
I found myself walking again from the junction at Halsema Highway in barangay Shilan at the municipality of La Trinidad in the province of Benguet (8:11 am). The road was just beside the Tacdian Elementary School.
Even though one can ride a passenger van/tamaraw fx, I opted to walk. It adds to my hiking distance and minus the fare.
Walked and walked, along the earth road going down, I met a man with a hoe and he was leveling the ground as it was so rugged and carved unevenly by running rain water during the past rainy season.
I told him that I'll be going down the river.
"Kunak man nu ada man ti kwa dita ta kadwaen ka (I thought if there was something there and I'll accompany you)", he said with a smile.
"Awan apan ko lang linisan dyay basura idiay (None, I'll just clean-up the trash in there)", I answered back.
Most of the time, going to waterfalls gets people thinking that one is going to look for "treasure/gold".

He told me that he was leveling/flattening the ground so he can drive the motorbike in it much easier.
I continued walking and arrived at the river at 9:01 am, walked going downstream and arrived at the waterfall area at 9:06 am.

The small cascade of Dinanking and its pool |
a pose with the small waterfalls |
I saw two plastic bottles at the dry bedrock. They looked new.
Put down my backpack and started to do what I came there for.
Brought out the garbage bag and gone to work.
I almost filled two medium sized garbage bags of assorted used plastic bottles along with some pieces of styrofoam.
the two sacks of trash i have gathered |
I rested for a while and as an artists, I made a sketch.
a sketch by the falls |
At 11:36 am, I left the waterfalls and walked upstream.
Just before the trailhead, there were again some few plastics lying around. I picked up what I can pick and went on to the trail going up.
I had to stop once in a while to rest my arms from carrying those two garbage bags filled with assorted plastics.
I continued walking and constantly resting along the way and thinking/finding where to put those garbage bag.
hand carried the two bags of trash all the way from the river into the road above and into the roadside at Halsema Highway |
I finally made it to Halsema Highway (1:05 pm) and asked the men sitting at the waiting shed as to where I can leave those garbage bags. Luckily, there was a small trash bin at the side. I left them there and went to eat at a nearby eatery.
Afterwards, I called it a day and went back to Home Sweet Home.

PICK IT UP the garbage we see,
DON'T ADD UP by irresponsible throwing of waste/trash.
