In the afternoon, two of us rode a jeep bound for Crystal Cave and told the jeep driver to please drop us at to where the cave was. He agreed and told us that the cave was already concreted.
Lots of things was running in my mind when he said that it was concreted. He said it as if it was a negative thing for the cave.

Since we had never visited the cave before, it was just okay if there were changes made. We just want to see it to satisfy our curiosity.
From the jeep, we went down at the drop off point and asked directions from a young boy (teenager) whom we first met as we walked. He gladly showed the way to the extent of him leading the way.
After a very short descending walk, we arrived at the area.
Obviously, it really was concreted. Concreted in such a way that it was now a waterway (although the cave was formed through the power of water dissolving limestone along its path, the concrete is the epitome of it saying that... That's a waterway!).
We went down to the concrete gully that leads to the cave but cannot go further to its entrance as it was too slippery. We needed a rope to get us safely further down.
The young boy, who also volunteered to become our guide (with a fee), went to see his companion who had a rope.
He came back with his companion and a rope. Afterwards, the four of us got inside the cave.
After a very short descending walk, we arrived at the area.

The flooring of the cave was concreted flat with a stream of water flowing slowly along it (might be a mixture of households and natural streams). Water was also dripping from the ceiling (some of it might be coming from the households above).
A few minutes later, there was the total darkness section and the only source of light was the flashlight. Farther on, there's a light at the end of the tunnel (cave) and just before it was a vent (opening).
We got out from the rear end of the cave and the concreted waterway continued few meters more.
All in all, not much to see and it was just a very short caving or more of a walking inside a waterway.
After a few minutes, we went back through the course to where we came from at the mouth of the cave.
After that, now I understood why it is not a popular (or it must have been taken out from the) tourist spot list of Baguio City.

Sounds like you had a better experience than i did, when i went it was full of trash and old tires. It smelled like someones toliet water went there while the locals tried to rip me off selling crystals, never again

ReplyDeleteIts sad to see its current state now. Ginawang kanal talaga ng local govt. I guess we were lucky enough to see its final glory moments last 2008. Where rock formations and bats were a sight to see in that totally pitched black but fun experience.
