It was 6:37 in the morning and I was bound for San Gabriel, La Union again.

I arrived at downtown San Gabriel at 7:15 am the same day and rode a passenger motorbike going to Lon-oy.

Along the way, few streams crosses the road (counted some four streams) and finally the motorbike stopped for it cannot go further up due to the road's concreting. I am now in Lon-oy (8:22 am) and walked a few meters up to a sari-sari store and had a snack. The store owners told me that I've passed-by, along the way, the "bakes swimming pool" few kilometers down the road and what can be seen going further up is the "micro" (referring to the Micro Hydro Power plant which i find it to be interesting).

I went to see the said "Micro". Passed by a Chapel area and hiked down for some 10 minutes or less to where a hanging bridge was.

At the hanging bridge, looking towards the left is the Dupagan falls carving its way down from the stones. I must say that the best to take pictures of the falls is from the hanging bridge and no wonder all pictures of this falls from different people look the same hehe!.

Went to the other side and a few meters walk to the right side is the Micro Hydro Power plant. The caretaker of the "micro" Iris Sonson came and gladly showed me around the "micro". After the "micro" we went back to the trail, passed by the hanging bridge and came across the Palpalaidan falls (9:53 am) which is slightly hidden from view with the fallen rocks. Took some pictures and off we went for an uphill hike and a little bit of climbing on the side of the hill. A few more walks and we arrived at another store and had some "halo-halo" .

I said goodbye to Mr. Sonson and left the store at 10:30 am. I went down the road passing by their Multi-purpose Barangay Hall , the elementary school, the store where i had snack earlier (and asked directions) and road concreting area. Before arriving at the welcome arch some 50 meters away , an off road concreted pathway leads you down to the "bakes swimming pool area". Took some picture and went back to the main road and hiked my way back (12:48 pm) ... didn't bothered to catch some motor bike ride for i want to hike. So i hiked my way back passing those streams that crosses the road only this time i'm gonna cross them with all the hanging bridges. I noticed that crossing them now is easier and more fun from the first time i did. So i enjoyed using those hanging bridges and sometimes took pictures of people below drying rice. Passed by the barangays of Balbalayang, Daking, Polipol and finally at a rock quarry at sitio Busayoc of Barangay Bumbuneg where i took a rest at a waiting shed. Finally a jeepney arrived and I hitched a ride. On the jeep, we passed by sitio Kilat and finally downtown San Gabriel at 3:30 pm. Had some food and rode the jeepney bound for San Fernando.

That concluded another Day Hike at one of the interior Barangays of San Gabriel , La Union called Lon-oy.

As of September 2016, every visitors are required to register and pay a certain fee at the San Gabriel PNP (Police) office.

How to get there:

1) From Manila take a bus going north - Laoag, Vigan, Candon, Abra, or La Union. Stop at San Fernando City, La Union City Plaza (buses are...Florida, Farinas, Viron, Dominon, Partas, Sta. Lucia, Candon, Genesis)
2) From San Fernando Plaza take a tricycle ride to jeepney terminal (near old market) bound for San Gabriel or you can walk to the jeepney terminal
3) Ride the jeepney bound for San Gabriel (cost about 26 pesos)
4) at San Gabriel Town Proper hire a single motorbike to Barangay Lon-oy (200 to 300 pesos)
5) (Ask directions from barangay folks) now take the hike
Note:
Jeepneys from downtown San Gabriel to Barangay Lon-oy cost 35 pesos and they usually go up to Lon-oy in the afternoon and go down from Lon-oy in the morning.
