LOSLOSI Falls (Nangalisan Falls)

 ________________________________________________________________________________
"I have seen the almost dried-up Loslosi Falls back in the summer. It is now rainy season and my travel to this town is not complete without going to Loslosi. In the first place, it is the waterfalls that made me come back to Bagulin."

-my pagnapagna-
(October 4, 2013 a Friday)

After coming from the Kedlap Burial Cave and Tagudtud People's Park, it's time to go and see the Loslosi Falls.
At 10:06 am, i walked towards the river and took a right turn on a road parallel to the river going east. Passed by another hanging bridge with a waiting shed beside its entry point (10:14 am), a few meters away is a small bridge on the road crossing a small waterfalls that goes down to the river below (10:20 am).
Walking further, i reached a second waiting shed by the roadside.
I went down to the river using a cemented step besides the waiting shed.
Walking along the rocky riverside, i happen to pass by a makeshift snack area and the woman said "Agmeryenda tayo pay sir" (Lets have a snack).
I replied back, "Tunno agsubli ak ton mother ta apanak pay dita waterfalls" (When I'll come back mother, I'll have to go first to the waterfalls).
The time was 10:44 am when I arrived in front of the waterfalls at the other side of the raging river.

The Waterfalls as seen from across the river

After taking some photos, I went back (11:06 am). I have to go back on the trail to get to the other side of the river and see the waterfalls close-up.
On my way back, I kept my promise to have a snack at the woman's makeshift snack area under a tree along the river, besides I'm hungry. I ate "tambo-tambong" and "pancit".
Back on the trail again, going up to the cemented road above and into the waiting shed at the entry of a hanging bridge (11:35am).
My back was aching bad that i have to put down my heavy backpack and sit down for awhile. At the waiting shed, i can see the makeshift snack area far away down the eastern riverside. I am going to the western side of the river where Loslosi Falls is.

Hanging Bridge to the other side of the river

I walked on the hanging bridge to cross the river and went down to the riverside (11:47 am).
The riverside was carpeted with boulders and big rocks. Step by step i walk on these rocks under the very hot noon sun.
I finally arrived at the base of the waterfalls. After resting for a while, I removed my shoes to scale up the waterfalls and lingered there for a while.

 Loslosi Falls
The waterfalls is made up of different cascades. It is about 4 tiers that cascades down at different heights. The main cascade which is at the top most level are made of 3 main separated cascades. It was very hard to get to the base of the main cascades as it is obstructed by large boulders and they are very slippery.

Then some locals arrived.

Around 1:30 pm, a group of locals came to swim in the deep pools and enjoy the cascades of the waterfalls.

At the third level of the cascades. Can you see them standing?

They dived at the deep pools and climbed up the cascades to the other levels. Then they went down again.
One of their companion got the chicken as well as the cooking utensils up in the third level of the waterfalls and started calling and shouting at his companion below (This is one of the scene on the video below).

Dressing the chicken and cleaning it at the waterfalls.
They must be cooking "pinikpikan".

They all went up to where their companion was and the preparation of the chicken for cooking started.

At the second level with the third and main upper cascades at the background

Well, I had my time at the waterfalls and I have to go. So, I went down from the cascades using a trail at the northern side of the waterfalls (at the mountainside). The trail led to the base of the waterfalls.
I departed from the waterfalls area at 2:33 pm. On my way back, I have to change my wet clothes at the back of the big boulders :-) .
Walked my way to the hanging bridge and into the cemented road that led to downtown Bagulin.
I arrived at downtown Bagulin at 3:22 pm where i got a tricycle ride back to the municipality of Naguilian and went back to Home Sweet Home from there.

Subject   LOSLOSI Falls aka Nangalisan Falls
Location : Sitio Nangalisan , Barangay Suyo
                 Municipality of Bagulin
                 Province of La Union

How to get there:

From Manila take a bus bound for any of these Northwest Luzon places : Laoag City (Ilocos Norte), Bangued (Abra), Vigan City (Ilocos Sur), Candon City (Ilocos Sur) and San Fernando City (La Union).
You have to get down at the Bus stop near the Town Plaza of Bauang, La Union (just before the Bauang Municipal Hall which is across the road). The Municipality of Bauang is located just after the town of Caba, La Union and just before the city of San Fernando, La Union.
At the Bus stop which is a waiting shed, walk your way northwards to the intersection. A road intersects the main highway coming from the east which is called Naguilian road (The road goes all the way up to Baguio City).
Walk some few meters going east at the intersecting Road (Naguilian Road).
There will be an array or stalls of eateries (Carinderia or locally called turo-turo) on the roadside. You may wait for jeeps bound for The Municipality of Naguilian, La Union there. Naguilian, La Union is the next town from Bauang, La Union going east.
You may also walk further passing by the eateries and into the public waiting shed (fronting the Public Library). At the waiting shed, wait for the mini-Buses bound for Baguio City and get down at Naguilian, La Union Town Plaza.
At the plaza you may now hire a tricycle to transport you to the interior town of Bagulin, La Union.
You will get down in front of Bagulin Municipal Hall.
(Ask directions in going to Sitio Nangalisan to see the LOSLOSI Falls.)
At the Municipal hall area of Bagulin, walk your way towards the river which is at the northern side of the town. Before reaching the river, under the hanging bridge going to Barangay Dagup, there will a cemented road going east parallel with the river. Walk on this road going east until you reach a waiting shed where a hanging bridge goes to the other side of the river. Cross the river through the hanging bridge and go down to the riverside. Walk your way on the rocky riverside until you reach the waterfalls.

    1. @aintto, Because summer is now coming all of the waterfalls are drying up. The ones with water all year round that i know are
-OCCALONG falls in Luna, TILI TI NUANG falls in Bagulin and TANGADAN falls in San Gabriel.
TANGADAN falls is the most breathtaking of them all even during summer which is also the one visited by the tourists (surfers) who visits also the surfing area at San Juan.
-Loslosi Falls (aka Nangalisan Falls) dries up during summer. much appreciated during rainy season as well as the other waterfalls.

  2. thanks for your reply. based on the waterfalls pictures you posted in this blog, I think Zim-sim-ug Twin Falls, loslosi falls and balay anito (santolan) are photographically interesting (I will take landscape pictures of them kasi). do you think these mentioned waterfalls have dried up this february? my plan is to visit them before February ends.

    1. Aintto,
On Zim-sim-ug - most likely, one of the twin falls would dry up but the other would have still water. On Balay Anito Falls - it would have still water but much lesser as i went there December. (Although I've never been in there during summers).
